Welcome!
The challenge of social justice is to evoke a sense of community that we need to make our nation a better place, just as we make it a safer place. – Marian Wright Edelman
Sojourner Truth Academy has finished out its first school year where over 100 scholars began their path towards college! In just one short year, Sojourner Truth Academy has proven to be a competitive force in the city of New Orleans, out-performing several schools in the city while serving each and every student that walks through the door. Our mission is to prepare all of our scholars for lives that include not only college but also a commitment to positive change for themselves, their families, the city of New Orleans and the world.
Looking back, our inaugural year has been full of service (over 1000 collective hours of community service), high academic achievement, and excursions that range from visiting LSU in Baton Rouge to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN. We believe that the experiences that our students have here during high school will be the experiences that shape and mold their futures – as leaders, writers, doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, and software designers. The list of aspirations, dreams and hopes of our students are endless. We are a school community dedicated to the pillars of Respect, Accountability, Pride, Unity and Perseverance and ensuring that our students become the scholars that will shape and lead their generation.
Our founding students and staff look forward to welcoming the incoming class of 2013, our second graduating class of Sojourner Truth Academy! Let’s continue to build on our strong foundation, ever striving for excellence in the classroom and in the community!
Each One Teach One!
